RB Leipzig swaps the goalkeeper – Péter Gulácsi is back

Péter Gulácsi was injured for a long time. His representative, Janis Blaswich, took advantage of the opportunity and was even able to recommend himself for the DFB squad. But in Leipzig’s crisis the turning point comes again.

After three defeats in a row and the 2:5 in Stuttgart, RB Leipzig’s head coach Marco Rose is changing the goalkeepers. For Janis Blaswich, who recently received an invitation from national coach Julian Nagelsmann, Péter Gulácsi will be in goal this Sunday (from 5:30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online) against 1. FC Union Berlin. Rose confirmed this at the press conference on Friday.

“Despite conceding five goals in Stuttgart, Janis played a decent game. It’s not about Janis’ performance, we have nothing to blame him for, he did an excellent job. We’re changing because we see the overall situation. We want to give new impetus.” said Rose and added: “We lost three games and want to change something in this position too.”

After tearing his cruciate ligament on October 5, 2022, the Hungarian national goalkeeper Gulácsi slowly worked his way up. The 33-year-old former captain has already gained playing experience this season in the Champions League against Bern and in the DFB Cup. It’s his comeback in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Before the game against Eintracht Frankfurt (0-1), Rose had already emphasized that he now had two number ones in goal and that he would probably make a change in February. Now he keeps his word. Blaswich digested the decision well. “We’re changing him because we see the overall situation. He’s not happy, but he took it professionally and will help the team where he can,” said Rose.

Union is something of a fearful enemy for the Saxons. RB was last able to end the Union curse with the 3-0 win in September 2023 at An der Alten Försterei. Before that, however, there were five 1:2 defeats in a row.
