RB Leipzig: Olmo is injured in Spain’s victory in European Championship qualification

get hit on the knee

RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo will miss Spain’s upcoming European Championship qualifying international match against Cyprus on Tuesday (8:45 p.m.). The Spanish Football Association announced this on Saturday. National coach Luis de la Fuente has already called up Ferran Torres (FC Barcelona) and Yeremy Pino (Villarreal) after Marco Asensio (Paris Saint-Germain) also had to pass due to injury.

Leipzig’s Olmo and Asensio were unable to finish the game in Georgia (7:1), in which the 16-year-old right winger Lamine Yamal became the youngest player in the association’s history and at the same time the youngest goalscorer (see article). Both players were substituted in the 43rd minute of the first half. The 25-year-old Olmo, who scored five goals in the German Cup winners’ first four competitive games and scored 3-0 against the Georgians on Friday evening (38th minute), probably got a blow on his knee. An exact diagnosis is still pending.

Leipzig will face FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga next Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky) and will have their opening game in the Champions League in Bern three days later. It remains to be seen whether Olmo will be available again by then.
