RB Leipzig interested: Gladbach sets Eberl fee

After retiring from Borussia Mönchengladbach for health reasons at the beginning of the year, Max Eberl is now acting as the new sports director at RB Leipzig. But the former Gladbach sports director would probably not be cheap.

RB Leipzig has been looking for more than a year: After the separation from Markus Krösche, the Saxons are without a sports director. Max Eberl is said to be one of the candidates for the post of sports director. The 48-year-old resigned from his post at Gladbach in January for health reasons. However, his contract, which runs until 2026, has not been terminated, it is only on hold.

Now “Bild” has revealed how much transfer money Borussia demands if Leipzig – or another club – wants to sign Eberl. Accordingly, the Gladbach bosses imagine at least ten million euros for the 48-year-old, who managed the fortunes of the Fohlenelf between 2008 and the beginning of 2022.

Said ten million euros would be a Bundesliga record. Never before has so much money been put on the table for a manager. Last year, Fredi Bobic was rumored to have switched from Eintracht Frankfurt to Hertha BSC for a low to mid-single-digit million amount.

Gladbach has already planned Eberl millions

RB boss Oliver Mintzlaff recently only said that he wanted to introduce a new sports director soon. However, he did not deny a possible commitment from Eberl.

“We are not ruling out anything today. We will present the solution promptly, I can say that in this case,” said Mintzlaff to the TV channel “Sky”. The RB boss had recently repeatedly announced a 1A solution, but postponed the presentation.

It is questionable whether Eberl’s commitment will happen in the next two weeks, so that Borussia can reinvest the money immediately.

Nevertheless, “Bild” reports that Eberl’s successor Roland Virkus would like to buy a striker with the fee until the end of the current transfer window, which closes on September 1st.

Preferred candidates are Dion Drena Beljo from NK Osijek, who has been traded for a long time, and Franck Honorat from Stade Brest.
