This is apparent from a survey by market researcher Panelwizard among more than a thousand driving license owners. The client of the research, Voyah Benelux, is as an importer of the Chinese brands Voyah, Dongfeng and Mhero and as part of the Dongfeng Motor Company, an interested party.

Nevertheless, it is clear that the Chinese car is on the rise. KPMG recently calculated that the market share of the Chinese car in Europe will grow from 4 percent in 2023 to 10 percent in 2030. The leading German car professional Matthias Schmidt of Schmidt Automotive Research also recently stated in the Telegraaf in Europe.

“We also see this in our showrooms,” says Kjeld Riegen, CEO of Voyah Benelux. “In addition, recent developments in the United States did not hurt us.” It is not surprising that motorists in the fully electric segment are increasingly looking at alternatives. “And that Chinese cars are increasingly playing a role in this. Practically all cars there are electric. In China, they are in the Netherlands in terms of use and innovation.”

The Panelwizard study shows that 51 percent of the respondents see the Chinese car as a serious replacement for a popular European brand such as Peugeot or Volkswagen. It is striking that this mainly applies to younger motorists. Of the respondents under the age of forty, no less than 60 percent say that the Chinese car is a fully -fledged replacement.
Safety and reach
One in three respondents still thinks that the Chinese car in the field of safety, reach and consumption does not deliver what is promised. But many Dutch people are still open to Chinese cars due to the competitive price-quality ratio.
Riegen sees that many people still have cold water fear. “Because everything that is new and strange is also exciting.” The Dongfeng Importerur emphasizes that Chinese cars simply have to comply with Eurpese regulations.

“Many electric cars, including European brands, are already being made in China,” says Riegen. He knows that batteries are almost always of Chinese descent, and also a large part of the latest technology comes from there. “What the consumer often does not know is that there is more and more fusion between European and Chinese parts and technology, so that the best of two worlds comes together.”
