“Rather blowing bubbles than smoking”: Bredene makes playgrounds smoke-free

In 2021 Bredene signed the Non-Smoking Generation charter. On twenty playgrounds in the municipality, benches have been fitted with signage. For example, the seaside resort wants to protect children and young people against tobacco smoke and allow them to grow up smoke-free.

Generation Smoke-free is a positive story. There are no fines or punitive measures for making a site smoke-free. “But we do encourage everyone to kindly address smokers not to smoke in the vicinity or the sight of children and young people,” clarifies alderman Daisy Hoste.

To promote the initiative, a bubble blower can be picked up from the youth service. Residents can share photos or videos of how they blow bubbles via social media with the hashtags #generationrookvrijBredene #ikblazerlievermattendanrook.
