A turbulent 2025 lies behind Marcus Rashford. In January, during his loan to Aston Villa, he left his youth club Manchester United for the first time in over 20 years. In the summer he took his first step abroad to Spain to FC Barcelona, also on loan. The 28-year-old hit like a bomb there – and would ideally like to wear the Blaugrana jersey beyond the season.

“I’m working on staying at Barça,” Rashford said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper Sport. “That is the ultimate goal, but it is not the reason why I train hard and do my best. The goal is to win. Barça is a big, fantastic club that is built to win titles.”

The Catalans have a purchase option worth 30 million euros and, as things currently stand, it would be difficult to avoid the Englishman for sporting reasons. He has seven goals and eleven assists after 24 appearances; in Europe’s top five leagues, only Bayern’s Michael Olise has more assists. And that despite the fact that the move to Spain was something of a last resort for Rashford, as he no longer played a role under Rúben Amorim at Man United.

“I’m getting used to the club and the city very well. From the moment I arrived, I had the feeling that everyone welcomed me very warmly. Everything is going great with the staff and my teammates, I can’t complain,” enthuses Rashford, who is only the second Englishman to join FC Barcelona in the last 100 years after Gary Lineker (1986-1989).
