Two years ago another Vale Gier appeared at Hoeve Holland on the Hollandse Weg near De Cocksdorp. “The animal stayed there for a few days and showed itself well,” says Pop. “One of the neighbors was afraid at the time that De Gier would eat the young calves. But he really doesn’t do that. He eats everything that is dead, such as rabbits, seals or sheep. As long as it stinks.”

Vale vultures are special birds. Due to their size with a wingspan to almost three meters and their somewhat creepy appearance, it is a striking appearance. Vale vultures can fly very high because they can withstand thin air. They are also able to cover long distances in a short time, using wind and thermics.
