The current Austrian national coach should be interested in leading an ambitious club to new heights. However, there is probably at least one catch.

Beams in the 2. Bundesliga A spectacular coup? The “picture” reports on Saturday evening, citing Austrian association circles: Ralf Rangnick should flirt with a return to German professional football – the goal: second division club Hertha BSC.

Accordingly, both sides are said to have already spoken about cooperation in Vienna. The 66-year-old Rangnick is currently overseeing the Austrian national team since May 2022.

The new Hertha President Fabian Drescher, who was personally involved in the talks, was happy about Rangnick’s obvious interest, even a “historical opportunity” to make the way back to the Bundesliga with Rangnick. It has not yet been clear whether he would take on an operational role as managing director in the background in the event of an engagement.

A catch, however,: Rangnick had undertaken to look after Austria until the 2026 World Cup. Rangnick also rejected an offer from Bayern Munich in April 2024. It seems unlikely that he now ends his commitment to the Alpine Republic in order to join a second division club in currently neither sporty nor a financially excellent situation.

Rangnick is known, however, to develop long -term concepts and to reorganize clubs structurally and sporty. In the past, he led Hoffenheim from the fourth league to the Bundesliga and formed RB Leipzig to a Champions League participant. He also worked at Manchester United.

In addition to Rangnick, the “Bild” apparently has further names in conversation, including Samir Arabi, most recently managing director at Arminia Bielefeld. Sven Mislintat, formerly at Borussia Dortmund and most recently in Stuttgart, should also be high on the list of candidates.
