Exloo has received a rainbow bench on the Oude Kampweg. In this way, the municipality of Borger-Odoorn wants to continue to pay attention to the theme ‘You can be who you are’. The bench, which subtly refers to the rainbow colors, was designed and made by young people from the village.

At first glance it doesn’t seem like a typical rainbow bench. “That is deliberate,” explains Mayor Jan Seton RTV1. “The tendency is often to portray the rainbow very emphatically. But it is precisely the idea behind it that matters; you can be who you are.”

According to the mayor, that theme fits well with the community of Borger-Odoorn. “It is so nice when you work with people who accept you as you are, with all the good and less good sides. That you can be fully yourself and also give that to others. You give each other that space, and that is exactly what we want to convey with this Rainbow Week.”

The rainbow bench arose from a collaboration between villagers and young people “We started thinking together: what do we want to express with it? At first we thought about lanes in rainbow colors, but when we knew that the bench would be located along the route of the sheep herd, we incorporated that theme,” says Dennis Renardel de Lavalette, one of the initiators.
