Eric Clapton once said of Paco de Lucía that he was “a true titan in the world of flamenco music”. De Lucía received his first guitar at the age of five, and he received lessons from his older siblings. At the age of 20 he released his debut album “La Fabulosa Guitarra”. In the 70s he worked together with the singer Camerón de la Isla – between 1969 and 1984 they released twelve productions together. The guitarist not only cultivated traditional flamenco, but also mixed it with influences from jazz and classical music.

During his career he has performed several times at the Montreux Jazz Festival. The record “Paco de Lucía: The Montreux Years” compiles excerpts from the eight concerts he gave there between 1984 and 2012. The live recording of “Buana Buana King Kong” from 1984 gives an insight into the release.

Notes by John McLaughlin, a longtime friend and companion of de Lucía, and “rare photos” complete the album. “Paco was not only a genius on the guitar, he was an extraordinary human being,” said McLaughlin. “He couldn’t read music, but I’ve never met a musician with such impeccable hearing. Above all, his curiosity and unquenchable thirst for deeper musical knowledge and experience enabled him to push the boundaries of the musical traditions of flamenco music.”
