Racism allegation: cup game interrupted
17.08.2025 – 5:06 p.m.Reading time: 2 min.

There was supposedly a racist incident in the cup game between Lok Leipzig and Schalke. The focus was on Schalke player Christopher Antwi-Adjei.
The round duel in the DFB Cup between Lok Leipzig and FC Schalke 04 had to be interrupted at short notice. The reason for the game break is said to have been previously unconfirmed racist statements about the ranks against Schalke professional Christopher Antwi-Adjei.
In the 13th minute of the game, Antwi-Adjei was ready to carry out a throw-in on the sidelines when he suddenly interrupted the process and went to the referee assistant. Finally, main referee Max Burda also joined entertainment and then called both captains. Burda also took up the conversation with the regulatory staff. The game could only be continued after around four and a half minutes.
A short time later, a stadium announcement followed that asked the audience to refrain from racist statements. As a result, Antwi-Adjei was audibly whistled by the fans at every ball contact. A scene that the broadcasting broadcaster Sky recorded at half -time also shows how an object flies towards the player.
The Leipzig press spokesman Carsten Maschulle faced the Sky microphone. The association made research, but had not been able to verify racist statements for the time being, he said. Neither an employee of the club who was near Antwi-Adjeis, nor other spectators in the area and the referee assistant have heard racist statements. “Then there was an announcement that racist statements have no place here. This is also our point of view as a club,” said Maschulle. “Racism and discrimination have no place on the soccer field.”
The whistle against Antwi-Adjei could be difficult to prevent. “We could make a announcement, but I don’t think it will make less,” the press spokesman continued. Whistle itself is also not unusual. However, the reason for the whistles that stand in the room in this case is unsightly.
