An enjoyable sequel not up to the level of the previous one

After the great success in 2017 of Here’s the paw!the cute Golden retriever Bailey returns to the screen again with new adventures. Like the first chapter, the film is based on a novel, A Dog’s Journeyby journalist W. Bruce Cameronwhich has collaborated on the screenplay of both adaptationsthe.

Retaining all the winning elements of the first film and although Gail Mancuso’s direction is a bit TV-ish, Qhere’s the paw 2 manages to involve the viewer, thanks to the intelligent alternation of funny moments and dramatic sequences. Weak point, the psychological characterization of the “human” protagonists, which is rather superficial, not to say stereotyped. Not up to the level of the previous one, the film can however count on a discreet crescendo of emotionsespecially in the first part when it focuses on the relationship between the big dog Bailey and little CJ.

The cast features a rediscovered Dennis Quaid

Ex-husband of Meg Ryan and father of actor Jack, Dennis Quaid is an actor versatile and multifaceted. He made his debut in the early 80s in the film Real men – and then became one of the faces of the decade thanks to roles in Leap in the dark (where on the set he falls in love with Meg) and in the Jerry Lee Lewis biopic Great Balls of Fire! – Flashes of fireor – where he acted alongside Winona Ryder.

The 90s had launched him among the most sought-after stars in Hollywood, but alcohol and drug addictions have partially compromised his career. Through thick and thin, he continued to perform on and off, giving us many gems here and there. He recently played Reagana biopic about the former President of the United States, and has a key role in The Substancethe film by Coralie Fargeat with Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley: it’s the slimy and mean TV show producer who fires Demi/Elisabeth Sparkle because it’s too old.

Soon we will see it in the series Happy Facethe (true) story of young Melissa Jesperson-Moore who, at the age of 15, discovers that her father Keith is the serial killer known as the Happy Face Killer.
