PSV will start again, but where are the new players?

With the first training ahead, PSV is still waiting for the first transfers. A contrast with last season when the selection was almost complete by mid-June. Supporters are starting to worry, but is that right?

It is still very quiet on the transfer market and that is a big difference with last year, especially in Eindhoven. Last season, PSV had almost the entire selection round by mid-June. Players such as André Ramalho, Phillipp Mwene, Marco van Ginkel, Joël Drommel and Davy Pröpper were already presented. Only Carlos Vinicius was later recruited.

PSV was there early because the club also had to start early in the preliminary round of the Champions League. This season, the people of Eindhoven will again play in the preliminaries of the million-dollar ball, but it can start two weeks later. It gives technical director John de Jong the opportunity to bet high. He previously indicated that he wanted to bring Luuk de Jong back. In addition, a goalkeeper also has high priority.

Outgoing transfers
While PSV may not have attracted any players yet, it should also be mentioned that only one basic player has left, Eran Zahavi. Furthermore, only Bruma has already made a switch, to Fenerbahce.

Strongholds Cody Gakpo, Ibrahim Sangaré and Mario Götze can count on interest from abroad, but no clubs are really concrete for all three at the moment. Benfica wanted to bring in Götze, but the Portuguese club did not want to meet the salary requirement of the German midfielder, according to various media. That is why he will ‘just’ be present on Monday at the first training session at the Herdgang.

That is not yet the case for Gakpo and Sangaré. They have played international matches in recent weeks. Also one of the reasons that it is still quiet on the transfer market.

In a hurry?
And so there will be many well-known names on the field next Monday. So is there cause for panic? No. The first official match will not be until July 30, so there is still plenty of time for John de Jong.

Anyone who also looks at other clubs will see that the transfer craze has yet to break out. Ajax has not yet attracted any players and it is also still quiet at Feyenoord. The Netherlands is simply a training country and also depends on the transfer fees that are paid at the top. That is where the first major transfers are now starting to come around. That is why the (transfer) ball is expected to roll quickly in Eindhoven as well.
