PSV is released with a fright against low-flyer SC Cambuur

It was a weak bite for 25 minutes that PSV showed against SC Cambuur. 25 minutes that could have ensured that the title was definitely out of sight. The Eindhoven team escaped a large deficit and managed to win 5-2 against the relegation candidate.

A long shot by Remco Balk gave the visitors the lead after a quarter of the game. The wing attacker was the end station of a razor-sharp counter in which Patrick van Aanholt was only able to intervene halfway.

The same Balk had the chance to score 2-0 shortly after that opening goal. Drommel managed to save face to face with his opponent. Especially the attacker of Cambuur will be awake tonight. It indicated that it was not going to be an easy game.

Obnoxious offside
Xavi Simons leveled PSV after a stupid loss of possession by Mitchel Paulissen. But instead of the Eindhoven team going over and over, there was once again a great opportunity on the other side. Mimoun Mahi was completely free to shoot the ball in but shot wildly over. Perhaps it should have been 3-1 for Cambuur.

The teams went to rest with a 1-1 score after a goal by Jarrad Branthwaite was disallowed for an annoying offside. A decision that was debatable.

In the second half, PSV soon seemed to be in calmer waters due to goals from Van Aanholt and Anwar El Ghazi. But quite soon after the 3-1, another goal was scored. Bjorn Johnsen was able to head in freely at a corner and brought back the tension.

But not much later it was Fabio Silva who brought the margin back to two. He scored a penalty convincingly to make it 4-2. A final encore came three minutes before time from Anwar El Ghazi, who put the 5-2 final score on the scoreboard.

Hell of a job
Despite the fact that PSV takes the three points, Sunday’s performance can be called shocking. Again the people of Eindhoven had a very difficult time against a team that is fighting against relegation. Previously, FC Emmen, FC Groningen and SC Cambuur already lost. Also now point loss hung over the head again but it escapes.

But showings like this don’t help fuel confidence towards another possible title. PSV is already six points behind Feyenoord and must hope for mistakes by the competition. Then it may not make a mistake itself, but that seems to be a hell of a job given the game of the last few weeks.
