Captain of PSV Luuk de Jong does not yet know where his future is as a football player, but excludes a switch to another Dutch club. The contract of the 34-year-old striker of PSV will end this summer. He is in conversation about a possible longer stay with the Eindhoven players, the only option in his own country for him, he explains to the NOS.

“If I keep going in the Netherlands, it is at PSV,” says the PSV captain against the NOS. He doesn’t want to think about stopping yet. “If it gets something else, it is abroad. There is anything about anything and everything about it, that is also part of top sport. But it is clear to me: if I continue in the Netherlands, it is at PSV.”

“First get that second place, then I will evaluate what I really want.”

If he ever stops football, he would like to do something within PSV, says the striker. “We also keep talking about that. But I have indicated that I first want to focus on finishing this season as well as possible. First get that second place, then I will evaluate what I really want.”

That can also mean a new foreign adventure. “With an expiring contract there are always foreign clubs that report. But much doesn’t even end up with me, my business observers know what I want. I am now focusing purely on PSV.”

De Jong is busy with his eighth season at the club with which he became four times champion. In the last five rounds of this season, direct placement for the Champions League must be secured. PSV has to defend a five -point lead over Feyenoord.

“That is what we are going to compete for each other,” says De Jong. “Of course there are a few difficult away games in between, it starts with Twente-out. Playing Champions League is very important for PSV, so we will do everything for that.”
