PSV achieves the desired defensive reinforcement with Bella-Kotchap

PSV hires 21-year-old German Armel Bella-Kotchap from Southampton FC for one year. The club says that this has brought in the desired defensive reinforcement. Bella-Kotchap played 28 games in the English Premier League as a central defender last season.

He played since last year with the now relegated Southampton. The German then came over from VfL Bochum, where he made his debut in the second Bundesliga as a seventeen-year-old.

“We made no secret of the fact that we were looking for an extra option for the rear,” said director of football affairs Earnest Stewart. “Despite his young age, he is a player with Premier League and Bundesliga experience. He can fill the position exactly the way we like it. He is fast, physically strong and also good on the ball. I look forward to to see him in action in the team.”

PSV and Anwar El Ghazi have terminated the attacker’s contract by mutual consent. El Ghazi came over from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022. In the 33 official matches that El Ghazi played for PSV, he scored nine times and scored two more goals. The footballer won the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Shield with PSV.
