The province wants to improve safety on the N34 and traffic flow at the Gieten traffic circle. Four possible solutions have been identified, for which the province has 90 million euros in cash.
1. Fly-over traffic circle Gieten without doubling N34
2. Fly-over traffic circle Gieten together with doubling N34 (Annen – Gasselte, about 6 kilometers)
3. Rescheduled fly-over traffic circle Gieten (near Eext) without doubling N34
4. Rescheduled fly-over traffic circle Gieten (near Eext) with doubling of a maximum of 3 to 4 kilometers.
After the first dust has kicked up during the walk-in meetings, the designs are tested for their consequences for the environment and the surrounding area. Local residents will also be informed about this.
After an outline of the expected costs, the provincial government will express its preference for one of the designs next year. The Drenthe Parliament agrees to this or votes down the proposal. The traffic project would then start in 2027 or 2028.
