Loran de Munck wrote gymnastics history with the silver medal recently at the European Championships in Munich. After a short holiday, the Haarlemmer is busy training again in the gymnastics hall of Hoofddorp. We sought him out. “Truly indescribable, I did not expect this.”
“Tears were in my eyes,” says Loran de Munck about his medal in the horse vault section. “So I have really written history and then I hear that I am now in a row with Epke Zonderland, Yuri van Gelder and Bart Deurloo.”

De Munck has been known for years as a great gymnastics talent. Only he did not realize what the life of a top athlete entailed. Brutally, he just messed around a bit. Only since the arrival of trainer Dirk van Meldert in 2019 has much changed in de Munck’s life. “Now train in with a purpose.”
