In a demonstration in The Hague for a stricter asylum policy, demonstrators have blocked the A12. The demonstration takes place this Saturday on the Malieveld, but according to an ANP reporter, a few hundred protesters went to the highway. The police have used water cannons and the A12 would almost be empty again. Protesters have also attacked police cars with sticks and stones.

The demonstration, organized by the right-Christian action group Els Recht, is intended as peaceful protest against immigration and for policy where “the interests of the Dutchman” are paramount. But in addition to entering the highway, fireworks would also have been set off. There are also videos on social media of confrontations between demonstrators and the police.

According to the NOS, a police car was set on fire. On images you can see that protesters are waving with Dutch flags and the prince flag, the orange-white-blue flag that, among other things, by supporters of Willem van Oranje. The flag was discredited after the NSB used the flag in the course of the late 1930s. Nowadays it is popular under (extreme) right-wing action groups.
