Eintracht Frankfurt has not had a sports director since Bruno Hübner left. From the new season, the office is to be filled with a former employee of Julian Nagelsmann, who recently had to resign as head coach of FC Bayern.
Eintracht Frankfurt is promoting its head of license player department Timmo Hardung for the new season, reports “Bild”. The 33-year-old is promoted internally to sports director at SBU.
The Hessians would thus close a gap that was created by the departure of Bruno Hübner in June 2021. When squad planner Ben Manga left the club last December and signed on as technical director at English Premier League club Watford FC, it grew even bigger.
Timmo Hardung joined Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2021 from RB Leipzig, where he had worked with the then head coach Julian Nagelsmann. Before his two years in Leipzig, Hardung was team manager at TSG Hoffenheim for four years – also under Nagelsmann. Both connect a friendship.
Eintracht Frankfurt instead of FC Bayern
When Nagelsmann switched to FC Bayern in 2021, he was happy to take his long-time companion with him to Munich. Hardung’s job profile is filled out by Kathleen Krüger at the German record champions,
Nagelsmann at the time: “I could have pushed through it, but it also has to make sense.” The friendship does not suffer from it, vacations together are still planned.
Instead, Nagelsmann let it be known at the time that Hardung would follow his Leipzig sports director Markus Krösche to Frankfurt. Hardung is “already called sports director two” by the Saxons, in Frankfurt he was actually quickly Krösche’s “right hand” and sat at the negotiating tables, as “Bild” reports.
According to the report, ex-professional Christoph Preuss will take over the post of head of the license player department at Eintracht Frankfurt.
