The Krefeld Penguins received their license for the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) today. This makes the climb perfect.
The last doubts have been eliminated Krefeld Penguins return to Germany Ice hockey League (DEL) back. After the sporting promotion, the KEV was successful with its license application and will therefore be back in the upper house in the 2026/27 season. The club and the DEL announced this on Wednesday. The Krefeld team were relegated in 2022.
“Outstanding moment”
“The granting of the DEL license is an outstanding moment for us and the result of a joint effort by many involved,” said Managing Director Peer Schopp. Our thanks go “particularly to our shareholders, partners, sponsors, employees and fans, who have supported us on this path with great trust, patience and commitment.”
Traditional club back in the league
The league is also happy. “We are pleased to be able to welcome a traditional club back into our league with the Krefeld Pinguins,” said DEL managing director Gernot Tripcke about the 2003 champions.
In April, the penguins and their coach Thomas Popiesch won the DEL2 playoff final against the Kassel Huskies and, in addition to the DEL2 championship, secured the right to promotion. The DEL has now given the green light for this.
