Manuel Neuer’s return to the goal of the German national football team after 709 days is perfect. As announced by national coach Julian Nagelsmann, the 40-year-old will be in the starting line-up for the start of the World Cup against Curaçao (from 7 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). Neuer replaces Lothar Matthäus as the oldest German national player, and it is also his 125th international match.
Aleksandar Pavlovic and Felix Nmecha are supposed to clear the defensive midfield and direct the game. Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz form the offensive line of three behind striker Kai Havertz.
