‘Promes was wiretapped because of suspicion of drug trafficking’

Former Ajax player Quincy Promes is also suspected by the Public Prosecution Service of involvement in drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organization. That reports The Telegraph† Because of those suspicions, he would have been bugged before he stabbed his cousin at a family party.

Relatives of Promes are said to have been detained on suspicion of drug trafficking and money laundering because of the same case. The former Ajax player himself should be arrested soon, according to the newspaper, but that is complicated because he is in Russia. Promes has been playing at Spartak Moscow since February 2021.

The stabbing took place in the summer of 2020. This week it was announced that Promes spoke about the stabbing in tapped telephone conversations. “He’s bold. He knew today. I couldn’t resist. Sorry aunt, forgive me,” he would have said, for example.

The Public Prosecution Service is now prosecuting Promes for attempted murder. The stabbing trial is set to take place on March 31.
