If Turku’s hot mustard is your favorite, you’re in a hurry. The production of mustard has been stopped, but you may still find it on the shelves of the shops.

– The store may still have some products on the shelves, but once they have been sold, hot mustard will no longer be available in Finland, says Unilever’s international communications.

Production of Turku mustard tulinen (black) is discontinued due to low demand for the product.

The red and green variants of Turku mustard (mild and strong) are still in production.

Säilyketehdas Jalostaja started producing Turku mustard in 1948. At first, the name was Linna mustard, but since there was already a mustard of the same name on sale in Sweden, the name had to be changed to Turku mustard. However, the castle remained on the side of the mustard tube.

Turku’s mustard from the fire is no longer produced.

In 1992, the international Unilever bought Jalostaja’s business, with the result that, after a few twists and turns, the production of mustard moved first to Sweden and then in 2008 to Poland.

This caused an uproar in Finland and Turku mustard began to be boycotted. In May 2014, Unilever announced that Turku’s mustard production would move back to Finland.

The product began to be manufactured by Maustaja Oy from Pyhäntälä, which is still a mustard manufacturer.
