Prison staff will soon start a 24-hour strike: overcrowding remains an unresolved problem

At 10 p.m. another 24-hour strike will start in all Belgian prisons. In Ypres and Bruges, prison guards are also leaving work because they believe that prison overcrowding is unsustainable. According to the unions, of the 900 detainees in Bruges, more than 70 sleep on a mattress on the floor. And this makes the overcrowding in Bruges among the worst in the country.
