Princess Madeleine of Sweden introduces her new dog Teddy

That will melt your heart (and who knows, the snow too) guaranteed.

Madeleine introduces dog

“I haven’t introduced you to our newest relative, Teddy!” writes the princess on Instagram with the touching snapshot. “Teddy is a real teddy bear who gives us lots of hugs and love.”

Not very new

Now we have to say right away: the dog is not that new at all. The four-legged friend has been living with the family for two years. We just never got to admire it. And that while the princess is still quite active on Instagram, where she shares a lot with her followers.

Family

Madeleine lives with her husband Christopher O’Neill and their three children Adrienne, Nicolas and Leonore. Not in a Swedish palace, as you might expect, but in Miami, Florida. She does make regular visits to Sweden. She should have no trouble finding a babysitter for Teddy when she leaves Miami, because look what a sweetheart.

cockapoo

Madeleine doesn’t say anything about the breed of little Teddy in her post, but it seems to be a cockapoo, a cross between a cocker spaniel and a poodle.

dog Zorro

In 2015, Princess Madeleine went into a nightmare when her Jack Russell dog Zorro died. The dog was sick and the princess had to put him to sleep. Madeleine received Zorro in 2006 for her 24th birthday, from her then-love Jonas Bergström. Jonas and Madeleine split in 2010 after Jonas allegedly cheated on his fiancée.

The royals and their dogs

This royal family isn’t the only one with a love for dogs. It is noticeable that almost all royal families are crazy about these four-legged friends. Queen Elizabeth is the leader: she once had fourteen dogs at the same time and is known for her love for corgis.

Dutch royals

Our own royals also love dogs. Princess Beatrix currently has a black Labrador and in the past she had a golden retriever, dalmatian, dachshund and border terrier. Willem-Alexander and Máxima also have dogs: three labradors and, since last year, labradoodle Mambo.

Royal four-legged friends

The Norwegian, Japanese and Danish royals also love the creatures. Just like Meghan and Harry and Charles and Camilla. Curious about all these royal four-legged friends? Read all about it here.
