When Diana died in 1997, a businesswoman Ellen Petho bought the spectacular dresses at an auction in New York. Petho had bought the dresses with the savings intended for the apartment. Businesswoman’s husband’s husband Louis83, put the dresses up for sale because his wife died aged 82 in January 2023.

Petho’s daughter Karrie60, tells the magazine that her mother’s last wish was to show the dresses to the whole nation as a charity.

– Our mother read the inscription on the inside of the auction catalog, according to which the prince William had told Diana that dresses should not gather dust in the wardrobe. According to him, they should be in the world when the princess did good. I think those words inspired my mother, says Karrie.

Diana died tragically at the age of 36 in 1997, when Henri Paul, who was driving her and Dodi Al-Fayed, crashed the car in a Paris tunnel with the paparazzi trailing behind.
