Prince Andrew, Michael Jackson and Bill Clinton appear in Epstein documents | Abroad

The documents surrounding Jeffrey Epstein released late on Wednesday evening mention many names that have long been associated with the financier. For example, the name of the British Prince Andrew appears in the documents.

The fact that people are mentioned in the documents does not mean that they are or have ever been suspected of anything. The names of accusers, staff and people who were only tangentially related to Epstein have also been made public.

Which names?

As expected, former President Bill Clinton is mentioned in the documents. Clinton previously admitted to flying on Epstein’s private plane a number of times and meeting the businessman. He has always denied knowing anything about the financier’s actions. The documents show that Epstein once insinuated to one of the accusers that Clinton liked young girls. A spokesperson for Clinton told CNN that it has been “almost 20 years since the former president had contact with Epstein.” The former president is not associated with illegal activities.

The names of illusionist David Copperfield and pop star Michael Jackson, who died in 2009, can also be read in the documents. Jackson was accused of sexual abuse both during his life and after his death, but was never previously linked to Epstein.

Breasts touched

The documents come from the lawsuit that victim Virginia Giuffre filed against Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s accomplice who is serving a twenty-year prison sentence for this. Giuffre settled in 2022 with Britain’s Prince Andrew, whom she had accused of having sex with her when she was 17 years old. Maxwell and Epstein allegedly forced her to do so. The papers also include accusations from another woman, who claims that the prince groped her. Andrew lost his titles in 2022 as a result of Giuffre’s lawsuit against him.

The documents also concern the testimony of Johanna Sjoberg, who worked for Epstein and stated in her testimony in 2016 that she was forced to perform erotic massages by the billionaire. She also testified that British Prince Andrew touched her breasts when she sat with him on a couch in Epstein’s apartment.

Some names had already become known in the trial against Maxwell. Others, for example the names of victims who did not go public with their stories, were blackened and remain secret. According to the judge, many people who are mentioned indirectly would not object to their names being released.

What had Epstein done?

Financier Epstein was accused of widely abusing teenage girls. He also took the girls to his island of Little Saint James in the Caribbean, which falls under human trafficking. Maxwell, with whom Epstein had a relationship for a long time, is said to have recruited victims. She was sentenced to twenty years in prison in 2021. About $150 million from Epstein’s estate has now reportedly been paid out in compensation to more than 125 women.

Epstein had a large professional and social network in the United States and abroad and often hung out with prominent people, including Britain’s Prince Andrew. Epstein took his own life before the federal lawsuit against him was initiated. Prince Andrew lost his honorary titles in 2022 due to allegations from Giuffre, who had sued him for abuse. Andrew settled the case.
