President Hainer takes the “eternal second” to task

After a pretty mixed season without a title, club president Herbert Hainer expects the FC Bayern basketball team to improve.

“It’s certainly not our goal to always be second,” Hainer told the Sky TV station, “we will now analyze it intensively and then draw the necessary conclusions.”

On Sunday, the Munich team conceded the decisive third defeat against defending champion Alba Berlin (81:96) in the Bundesliga play-off final in their own hall. In the cup, Bayern failed in the quarter-finals, while in the EuroLeague the team coached by Andrea Trinchieri only just missed out on the Final Four.

“We had a season with mixed feelings,” concluded Hainer: “We played excellently in the EuroLeague, Barcelona were forced to play five games in the play-offs, and then we lose the German championship here at home.”

“You had to pay tribute to the long season. There was a bit of a lack of physical and mental, i.e. mental fitness,” said the President, but also emphasized that he wants to see progress. “Overall I’m satisfied, but next year it has to be more,” said Hainer at “MagentaSport”. It was a “good, not a very good season”.
