Premier Padel: Chingalan defeated in two tight sets, while Ustero-Sanchez paid for the effort of the longest semi-final ever
Agustin Tapia cries after the point that takes him back to winning a Premier Padel Major together with Arturo Coello. At the Foro Italico, in front of the enthusiastic audience of a sold-out Centrale, the number 1s in the men’s ranking took revenge on Chingotto and Galan, who had recently outclassed them. The queens of the women’s ranking, Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, are also celebrating.

After losing 5 consecutive finals – all against Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez – Delfi and Gemma are smiling again. This time, the number 1s in the FIP ranking faced Andrea Ustero and Ari Sanchez in the match that awarded the title, having emerged victorious from the longest match in the history of Premier Padel (4 hours and 12 minutes to beat Josemaria-Gonzalez). And perhaps a bit of tiredness, especially mental, held back Andrea and Ari, who struggled a lot to get into a rhythm. Having lost the first set 6-1, the two Spaniards reacted and battled in the second, but lost 7-5. For Brea-Triay it is the third tournament won in this 206, after those of Gijon and Cancun at the start of the season.

The men’s final was much tighter, and this is already news, because the last clash between Chingotto-Galan and Tapia-Coello, in Buenos Aires, ended 6-2 6-1 for the Chingalans. Arturo and Agus, determined to send a clear signal in this Major, faced the match aggressively, as they had done since the first day at the Foro Italico. And they moved ahead by a set and a break. At 7-5 5-4, Coello-Tapia found themselves 30-0, two points away from the match: the Chingalan, however, had the strength to obtain the counter-break, when everything seemed compromised. At the tie-break of the second set, a couple of spells from Coello directed the outcome, before the final closure by Tapia with the smash. The direct comparisons in 2026 are now at 4-2 for Chingotto-Galan, but the number 1s have returned to honor the throne they have occupied for three good years now.
