Successes for Everton (2-0 against Fulham) and West Ham (3-2 against Burnley). City can now get closer to the top
It’s not over until it’s over. Yogi Berra’s famous phrase is perfectly adaptable to this Saturday in the Premier League, where the finals were more excited than ever. The ones who paid the price were above all Arsenal – caught in full injury time by Sunderland – and Tottenham, defeated at the last moment by Manchester United.
TOTTENHAM-MANCHESTER UNITED 2-2
—
Not a match for the faint of heart in London. Mbeumo opened the scoring for United just after the half hour mark and the 0-1 score held until the final minutes, when everything happened. In the 84th minute Tel equalized with a goal from a true centre-forward, in the first minute of injury time Richarlison signed the incredible comeback by correcting a shot into the net. But on the last available corner, even with Lammens in the opponent’s area, De Ligt stands out to fix the score at 2-2.
EVERTON-FULHAM 2-0
—
The more linear trend can be appreciated in the match between Everton and Fulham. The Toffies dominated throughout the match and saw three goals canceled out – rightly so. After a back and forth in the area, Gueye found the right opportunity to beat Leno in added time in the first half. The second goal was scored by Keane with a header from a corner in the 81st minute.
WEST HAM-BURNLEY 3-2
—
Goal celebration at the London Stadium, where West Ham beats Burnley. The visitors took the lead with Flemming’s header in the 35th minute, then Wilson restored parity in the 44th minute. The Hammers extended their lead in the final quarter of an hour: Soucek put Paquetà’s shot back into the net in the 77th minute, Walker-Peters’ strike closed the score in the 87th minute. It is too late, in fact, for Cullen’s goal (97′), which sets the score at 3-2.
SUNDERLAND-ARSENAL 2-2
—
Initially, for Arsenal, the bad news seemed to only be that they had lost Raya’s unbeaten run which had lasted for eight matches, i.e. since last September 28th. Ballard’s tracer pierced it in the 36th minute. Thanks to a turnover coming out of Sunderland, Saka restored parity in the 54th minute, with a precise diagonal. Trossard signs the comeback a quarter of an hour from time, taking advantage of the space given to him by the opposing defense to finish, but Brobbey in the 94th minute acrobatically anticipates Raya coming out to make it 2-2. It would seem over, but Ballard actually performs a miracle by opposing Merino’s sure-fire conclusion.
