The FC Chelsea has become in English Premier League in the London Derby Tottenham Hotspur Highly deservedly won 1:0 (1:0). While Chelsea presented themselves wide awake, there was far too little from Spurs on Saturday evening (November 1st, 2025).
Joao Pedro’s goal in the 34th minute ultimately decided the game, the “bluesBut they could have used one of the numerous opportunities to score more goals. The hosts, on the other hand, presented themselves astonishingly harmless and prone to errors in defense.
With this success, Chelsea has caught up with its London rivals on points (both now have 17 points). Tottenham remains third for the time being, Chelsea climbed to fourth place.
Xavi came on early, Chelsea took the game
The game had barely started when Tottenham coach Thomas Frank had to change. Midfielder Lucas Bergvall had received a ball in the face and was dazed, ex-Lepiziger Xavi Simons came into the game for the Swede (7th). Whether it was due to the early change or not: The Spurs didn’t find their game as a result.
Chelsea seemed more alert and put their stamp on the game with strong pressing. After a passing error by Spurs, Joao Pedro was denied by a well-reacting Guglielmo Vicario in Tottenham’s goal, but the Brazilian netted the net a short time later. Once again, Tottenham were not very clever in their own possession, Moises Caicedo managed to win the ball close to the goal twice within a few seconds. Joao Pedro safely used the Ecuadorian’s cross pass.
Only Kudus sets the tone at Tottenham
There was still not enough coming from Spurs, only Mohammed Kudus occasionally caused some danger. Instead, the guests had another great opportunity: Malo Gusto was allowed to cross from the right, Joao Pedro was denied by Vicario from close range – once again Tottenham looked anything but good in defense.
At the end of the first half, the hosts were also lucky to be able to continue playing with eleven men after Rodrigo Bentancur hit Reece James badly on the ankle in stoppage time, but was only given a yellow card by the referee. A decision that left the Chelsea camp perplexed; red would have been appropriate for the rude entry.

If there’s a danger, it’s Chelsea
Chelsea initially remained the better team in the second half. Enzo Fernandes (53′) and Pedro Neto (56′ and 57′) could have used the guests’ good phase to make it 2-0 after the restart. But Chelsea wasted their chances and Spurs stayed in the game. But it stayed that way: The Spurs had an enormously difficult time against well-defending guests.
Frank tried to provide further impetus with a triple substitution in the middle of the second round. For Xavi Simons that meant the maximum penalty: after being substituted, the Dutchman, who doesn’t seem to have arrived in London yet, was taken out again. But Frank’s changes also had no effect: Tottenham remained harmless.
Instead, it was Chelsea who had another huge chance in stoppage time: First, ex-Dortmund substitute Jamie Gittens shot the ball from the best position into the London night sky, then Joa Pedro was denied by the outstanding Vicario in a one-on-one. The guests were able to get over their excess of chances, but that didn’t change the away win.
Spurs now against Copenhagen, Chelsea in Azerbaijan
Both teams move on to the next games – in the Champions League. Tottenham are the clear favorites against Copenhagen on Tuesday evening (9 p.m.). Chelsea travels to Azerbaijan to see Qarabag Agdam, and for the “Blues” only a win against the outsiders counts (Wednesday, 6:45 p.m.).
