Poster against President Gegenbauer and investor Windhorst

Berlin (AP) – The Hertha fans have taken a stand in the power struggle between club president Werner Gegenbauer and million-dollar investor Lars Windhorst with a huge poster.

“Windhorst and Gegenbauer out,” was emblazoned across the upper tier of the east stand of the Olympic Stadium during the Berlin Bundesliga derby against 1. FC Union on Saturday.

A long-simmering dispute recently broke out between the club boss and the financier. Windhorst called for Windhorst’s replacement at the general meeting planned for May. In view of the lack of sporting success, the financial investor complains that the around 375 million euros that he has made available since 2019 are wasted.

The Olympic Stadium was sold out at the local duel for the first time since January 2020 and the subsequent start of the corona pandemic with 74,667 spectators. Both rival fan camps created a tingling atmosphere in the huge arena. Shortly after the kick-off, however, several firecrackers were ignited in the Hertha block.
