At the World Athletics Championships in Eugene there is the first Corona case in the German team. Walker Christopher Linke has tested positive and is in quarantine. The man from Potsdam missed the race over 35 km on Sunday (07/24/2022).

“Unfortunately, my last night wasn’t that pleasant, so I tested myself as a precaution,” said the 34-year-old: “Unfortunately, the test was positive. Then I consulted the DLV doctors, we did another test that was also positive. So the only logical conclusion was that my start at the World Cup would be cancelled.”

There was nothing to gain for the only German in the field, Christopher Linke. Watch the race in full here.

“I always lack the necessary luck to win the medal”

The two-time Olympic fifth over 20 km is now in quarantine. “Of course I’m super disappointed, but I can’t help it,” said Linke: “I just don’t have the luck to win the medal again and again. Here would have been an opportunity, now I’m obviously all the more disappointed.”

Linke dropped out of a difficult 20-kilometer race on the first day of the World Championships in order to save himself for the 35-kilometer course and had hopes of a podium finish.
