At least ten voters were told that the polling station, which should have opened at half past eight this morning, was still closed. Some went to the next polling station, others were patient and stayed at the gate.
“I think this is a start that makes you think: Huh? What now?” says volunteer Tineke Emmer, laughing. “I was ready at ten to seven.” The members of the polling station are busy calling in the early morning to get hold of someone who can open the gate. A voter realized that due to the delay she could no longer vote in her municipality and had to continue to Zwolle in the morning.
Delay of 40 minutes
At 8 a.m. a rescue volunteer arrived and was able to open the gate. At 8.10 am, 40 minutes later than planned, people were able to enter the voting booth.
“I waited a while,” says someone else who also got there early. “I have to go to work and I looked at how busy it is on the road. But I thought: I can come a little later.”
