The shorter days are once again causing a peak in home burglaries. In several municipalities in West Flanders, including Menen, Oostkamp and De Haan, the police have recorded noticeably more facts in recent weeks. In De Haan they even speak of “a small wave of burglaries”.
According to Dennis Goes of Bredene/De Haan police zone, the early fall of darkness plays a major role. “It is easier for burglars to see where there is a light on and where there is not,” he says. “That immediately makes homes without lighting a possible target.”
