After more than four years, the chief spokesman for the Berlin police, Thilo Cablitz, is moving to a new position.

Cablitz recently told the dpa that he would officially be there as a spokesman until October 1st. It is also already clear who will be the successor. The police do not want to officially announce the name of the woman or man until the start date.

According to a report by “Tagesspiegel”, Cablitz told the police about his planned change in a video interview on Sunday at the police open day.

Cablitz (born 1978) had previously worked on the social media team and in police public relations before becoming a press secretary.

A few months ago, police chief Barbara Slowik described him as one of her most important advisers. Half seriously, she said that she didn’t really like letting him go.

The top spokesman for the police recently all changed to a new, higher post after four to five years.

Cablitz worked as a police officer in Neukölln and Kreuzberg, headed police stations and made a career in the agency. His father was from Sudan in Africa, Cablitz has been vocal about the issue of racism inside and outside the police force and reported hearing racist remarks.
