The police were present in large numbers on Tuesday evening at the fair in Liempde after earlier disturbances between groups of young people. Several security guards and boas also walked around. The night before there were several upsaws between two groups that were looking for confrontation with each other. Someone was also abused.

The fair went quietly on Tuesday evening. Agents actively talked to young people to prevent escalation.

Monday night, so around closing time, a threatening situation arose in the bumper cars when groups of young people were arguing with each other. To prevent a massive fight from occurring, the police formed a line. The baton was also used. In a second upset, agents arrested a 22-year-old man from the municipality of Boxtel.

A little later a report came to the police of a mistreatment outside the fairground. People were involved in the same groups. Nobody was arrested for this abuse.

Young people from Boxtel have been causing nuisance for a long time. They show intimidating behavior, scold people and spit them. Since June, a gathering ban has been applied in Boxtel.

Ronald van Meygaarden, the mayor of Boxtel, examines whether it is necessary to take measures at the fair – who will start in Boxtel – next week. He indicates that he was very shocked about what happened in Liempde. “You do everything to ensure that such a pleasant event like the fair goes as smoothly as possible. Yet you notice every year that tensions can arise.”
