Police dispute that fat bikes are allowed to go too fast with impunity: “Our garage is full”

According to the police, action is indeed being taken against drivers of fat bikes who drive faster than 25 kilometers per hour. Fat bikes would regularly be confiscated.

An officer from the Haarlemmerweg basic team wrote this down Facebook. “Our garage is full of confiscated fat bikes. Violators also receive hefty fines.”

The new speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour on many roads in the city (effective in December) will also impact fat bike drivers, the officer wrote. “They must also adhere to this.”

The number of fat bikes has increased in recent months increased considerably. Some of them are souped up and some of those souped-up fat bikes even have a throttle, so users don’t have to pedal themselves to move forward.

The police advise fat bike owners to: on the RDW website to look at what is and is not allowed.
