A 34-year-old man from The Hague fled from the police last night after ignoring a check in Smilde. The man did that in a 45-kilometer car.
Around 2 a.m., police signaled the driver to stop, but the man did not yield and took off. With sirens blaring, officers chased them across the slippery roads. Only in Rolde, about thirty kilometers away, did the police manage to arrest the driver. The man had gotten himself stuck on the Waardeel in the village.
After a test, it turned out that the resident of The Hague was under the influence of drugs. The man also turned out to be on the run. He still had an outstanding prison sentence of 180 days. It is unknown why the suspect was in Drenthe.
