Now the Polestar 4 is officially available for purchase in Europe. As well as in Australia, but this concerns us less closely. This, in a nutshell, is the news of the beginning of February 2024 from the Swedish company specialized in the production of electric vehicles. After the start of production and the first deliveries at the end of last year for the Chinese market, online pre-sales for Europe start with an indicative starting price of 66,900 euros for the Long Range single motor (delivery included). There Long Range dual motor will have a starting cost of 73,900 euros. Production is expected to begin in mid-2024, with first deliveries in August.

Polestar 4

The Polestar 4 blends concepts of a coupé with the comfort of an SUV, thus creating a sort of category of its own. It fits halfway between the raised Polestar 2 sedan (461 cm long, 186 wide and 148 high) and the Polestar 3 SUV (490 cm long, 197 wide and 163 high). To be precise, the Polestar 4 measures 484 cm in length, 214 cm in width (including mirrors) and 153 cm in height, with a wheelbase of almost 3 meters net. In short, a Premium D-Suv coupe with sharp lines built on the platform Sustainable Experience Architecture (Sea), developed by the Geely group (the same as Volvo). The design elements already seen in the Polestar concept cars are brought into production in what the technicians define as the fastest production Polestar ever built.

Rear window? No thank you

The elimination of the rear window is certainly one of the most distinctive elements of the car. More than the aerodynamics themselves, improved by the low front end, retractable door handles, flush windows, rear aerodynamic fins and optimized airflow around the rear light bar. Thanks to the dimensions listed above and the design of the car, the occupants of the second row will be able to enjoy not only a customizable seat with electrically operated seats, but also an immersive experience with lighting coming from above (panoramic roof) and not from behind (absence of the rear window, in fact). The rearview mirror is replaced by a high-definition screen that shows a real-time feed from a rear-view camera mounted on the roof, allowing – according to the Polestar press release – a wider field of vision than you can have in most modern cars. The digital signal can be deactivated to allow the driver to see rear occupants if necessary.

Polestar 4: autonomy and performance

The Polestar 4 is the fastest production car the brand has developed to date. It can reach 100 km/h from a standing start in just 3.8 seconds and the maximum power is 400 kW (544 HP). The motors are of the permanent magnet synchronous type. Dual and single motor variants are available, with the latter featuring rear-wheel drive only. Semi-active suspension is featured on the dual motor version for an additional level of adjustment between comfort and performance dynamics. Wheel sizes range from 20 to 22″, with tires supplied by Pirelli and Michelin, depending on configuration. One battery 100 kWh it is installed in both long-range versions. The Long Range dual motor features 544 HP, 686 Nm of torque and a preliminary range target of up to 580 km in the WLTP cycle. A disconnect clutch allows the car to disengage the front electric motor when not needed, to maximize range and efficiency. The Long Range single motor version, on the other hand, has a 200 kW (272 HP) and 343 Nm of torque on the rear axle, with a preliminary target of up to 610 km of autonomy in the WLTP cycle. For both versions the car is chargeable up to a power of 200 kW, with bi-directional charging hardware included. However, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality will be available at a later date, allowing external devices to draw energy from the Polestar 4.
