Poland announces US agreement to supply 250 Abrams tanks

To speed up the delivery of tanks to Poland was previously called in the US House of Representatives. Poland expected to equip its army with them from 2022, but the approval of the agreement was delayed.

The US State Department approved the sale of 250 next-generation Abrams tanks to Poland, informed on Twitter, Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak.

“The State Department approved the sale of 250 Abrams tanks in the most modern version of the M1A2 SEPv3,” he wrote, noting that this is one of the most important arms contracts in the history of Poland.

Poland will deploy US troops near the border with Ukraine

The minister spoke about the supply of new generation Abrams tanks to the Polish army in July 2021. At the time, he claimed that the Polish armed forces would be equipped with tanks from 2022. At the same time, as wrote Defense News, the American tank manufacturer General Dynamics said that the deal could take about two years to complete.

The White House needs to speed up the delivery of tanks amid the situation around Ukraine, said members of the House of Representatives, member of the Armed Services Committee Mike Rogers and member of the Intelligence Committee Mike Turner.
