Serena Williams returns to the “hallowed turf” of Wimbledon (June 29 to July 12) after four years, alongside her sister Venus.
As the organizers announced on Tuesday (June 16, 2026), the tennis icon will receive a wildcard in doubles together with her sister Venus. Serena Williams was last at the 2022 Church Rd started, a few months later the 23-time Grand Slam-Winner then ended her career at the US Open.
The 44-year-old is now competing alongside Venus in her third event since her sensational comeback. Last week, the seven-time Wimbledon champion played another match at London’s Queen’s Club alongside Canadian Victoria Mboko after 1,376 days and won straight away. Williams is currently competing in Berlin with her Czech doubles partner Karolina Muchova.
Last title ten years ago
The two Williams sisters have celebrated 14 doubles triumphs together at Grand Slams. They won their last of six victories at the grass classic Wimbledon ten years ago.
In 2000 and 2002, Serena and Venus received a wildcard in doubles and then won the title. Serena Williams is not listed among the wildcards in women’s singles, but one place is still up for grabs. In 2022 she failed in the first round to the Frenchwoman Harmony Tan.
Wawrinka is also allowed to play
The Polish French Open finalist Maja Chwalinska, who had a sensational victory as a qualifier in Paris and only lost in the final against the Russian Mirra Andrejewa, is certainly there.
In the men’s category, three-time Grand Slam champion and two-time Wimbledon quarterfinalist Stan Wawrinka from Switzerland receives a wildcard.
In the men’s doubles, one place goes to the Australian Nick Kyrgios and the Kazakh Alexander Bublik. Kyrgios made his comeback in Stuttgart last week after a long injury crisis.
