On Monday afternoon, 21 jerry cans with a dangerous content were found in a forest area on the Oude Spoorbaan in Goirle. What exactly is in it is still unclear. After mercury fumes were found in measurements, the investigation was temporarily stopped.

Employees of the environmental technical company that was engaged for this, Strukton, first wanted to wait for the police. An area around the location is closed. In the meantime, cleaning up has started: it is not a matter for the police. When cleaning up, the content of the jerry cans Overlooked in blue barrels that Strukton knows for sure that they are waterproof and can be closed properly.

After the find was reported around five o’clock, other aid agencies were also alerted.

Mayor Mark van Stappershoef was also informed at the beginning of the evening. He immediately came to take a look. According to a spokesperson for the municipality, the land where the barrels were, is not polluted: “Nothing has leaked.”

It is not known where the barrels come from. For the time being, the police are not going to investigate. The fire brigade did not have to take action.
