Plans for heat network in Wielsbeke

A thousand Wielsbeek families, the swimming pool and a few public buildings could connect to this, so that they save considerably on their energy bill every year and emit a lot less CO2.

Mayor Jan Stevens (CD&V), Fluvius, A&U Energie and project developer Groep Huyzentruyt signed the letter of intent this afternoon, allowing the investigation to start.

Climate targets

A&U Energie from Breestraat, which has been supplying the West Flemish companies Unilin and Agristo with 100% green energy with its green power plant for three years now, now also wants to share the production heat from the combustion of wood waste with the center of Wielsbeke via a large heat network . The heat network will probably be fed with heat that will have a temperature of approximately 90 degrees. Steven Vandenbulcke, Plant Manager at A&U Energie: “After the industrial steam applications of our green heat at Unilin and Agristo, there is still enough energy present in the hot water to be usefully applied in a heat network. Thanks to this heat network and with our green heat can we make Wielsbeke more sustainable in this way. We are very proud to be able to participate in this project.”

“This heat network offers a unique opportunity for the municipality to achieve the imposed climate objectives. Our residents should also be able to use this energy source close to their door in the long term.” – Jan Stevens, mayor of Wielsbeke
