The search for a new sports director is apparently over. VfL Wolfsburg is said to have struck gold. The club uses the competition.
The next personnel decision is apparently imminent at VfL Wolfsburg. According to media reports, Pirmin Schwegler is about to move from Frankfurt to Lower Saxony and take on the job as the new sports director.
As the “Kicker” and the “Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung” both report, VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt have agreed on a move for the 38-year-old. The deal is expected to be completed this week.
Schwegler is currently working as head of professional football at Eintracht Frankfurt. He has been working there with sports director Markus Krösche and sports director Timmo Hardung since the beginning of the year. As a player, Schwegler once led Frankfurt onto the field as captain. He also played in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen, TSG Hoffenheim and Hannover 96. The former midfielder ended his career in 2020.
At VfL Wolfsburg, Schwegler would work under managing director Peter Christiansen in the future. The position of sports director is vacant following the separation from Sebastian Schindzielorz. Two candidates had previously declined from VfL: Andreas Schicker from TSG Hoffenheim and Hanover’s managing director Marcus Mann.
