Pink: Narrowly escaped death after overdose at 16

One of the most dramatic experiences for the singer occurred on Thanksgiving 1995.

In a new interview, Pink gave insights into her past and explicitly her extreme drug experiences. She is said to have grown up in a toxic household and got on the wrong track through a series of wrong decisions. At the age of 16, she almost died of an overdose.

“I had an aggressive attitude”

“Basically, I grew up in a house where my parents yelled at each other every day, threw things, and hated each other. And then I got into drugs, I sold drugs – and then I got kicked out of the house, I dropped out of high school. “I got on the wrong track,” says the singer in an interview with Cecilia Vega from “60 Minutes”. And further: “I was a punk. I had a big mouth. I had an aggressive attitude.”

At the age of 16, Pink had a dramatic experience at a rave in 1995. She remembers: “Thanksgiving 1995 I was at a rave and took an overdose. I was on, oh man, ecstasy, angel dust, crystal, all sorts of things. Then I was gone. Completed. Too much”. She confirms to Vega that this almost cost her her life.

Never do drugs again?

Shortly after her overdose, the now 44-year-old is said to have been offered a gig at a hip-hop event – but only under one condition. The DJ is said to have told her at the time: “I’ll give you a guest appearance. But you must never touch drugs again.”
