Pilots circling above Corsica by sleeping traffic leader: “I have never experienced anything like that”

For an hour a passenger plane from Paris circled above the dark airport of Ajaccio, on the island of Corsica. When the airport is approaching on Monday evening, the crew did not get in touch with the control tower and the runway remained unlit. There was no panic on board, but growing surprise about the bizarre situation. The reason turned out to be as simple as shocking: the only air traffic controller in the tower had fallen asleep.
