“This is my great pride,” says Piet, walking to the reconstructed Reformed Church of Andijk, which he worked on for three months. “I made a mistake by using glue that is not water -resistant.”
That the roof starts to tear here and there, Piet is not concerned about that. “People learn and you will be wise by damage and shame,” he says with a wink. “We will repair that again.”
Fascinated by churches
Piet has always been fascinated by churches. When he started reconstruction of buildings, the choice was logical: “I am also a believer myself and I just have a certain feeling about the church. On holiday visit also like churches, that’s wonderful. I am sought -after. That is why I am now working on the train station in Enkhuizen. That is something completely different. That was an idea of my wife. “
Piet can be found in his shed for at least a few hours a day. Nice to saw, sand and paint. He gets the wood from his neighbor, who acts in garden sheds.
Piet is sometimes going to build a church for months, and works on the basis of photos that he takes: “The great thing is that you become more and more precise and more precise over the years. Of course a critic will say that it is not entirely right, but a runner does not see the difference.”
