Updated on July 25th, 2025 – 5:42 p.m.Reading time: 2 min.
The qualification for the sprint race at the Grand Prix of Spa is decided in the last second. Then the Australian turns up again – and duped world champion Verstappen. There is a surprise behind it.
Oscar Piatri has secured the pole position for the sprint race at the Grand Prix of Belgium in Spa. The McLaren pilot drove the fastest time in 1: 40.510 minutes on Friday afternoon on Friday afternoon and thus goes into the race at the sprint on Saturday. Just behind: World champion Max Verstappen in second place, third was Piatris teammate Lando Norris.
The Australian has a good chance of further expanding its World Cup lead. Most recently, the 24-year-old had been able to secure a pole position at the Grand Prix of Spain at the beginning of June. Surprisingly, Haas driver Esteban Ocon finished fifth behind Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.
During the time hunt for the short race over a good 100 kilometers on Saturday (from 12 noon in the live ticker at T-Online), Nico Hülkenberg only made it to position 17. After his sensational third place, it was not as desired on the first day in the Ardennes on the first day. The only German driver in the field had a lot of gap to the extreme in the kick-Sauber. The day for record world champion Lewis Hamilton ended even more bitter, who turned from the route in Ferrari on his fast round and was only 18.
The third sprint weekend of the season is held not far from the German border. On Sunday (from 3 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online) it is about the more important victory in the Grand Prix. Before the 13th of 24 seasonals, Piatsri leads the overall ranking in front of Norris. The four -time Champion Verstappen already has 69 points behind Piatri as the third.
